D17 Day of Action #OWS
we started out at Duarte Park on Canal and 6th St in Manhattan.
To celebrate OWS 3 month birthday, Bradley Manning's birthday, The Death Day of Mohammed Bouazizi and The Signing of the Bill of Rights.
We were asking for a Sanctuary for Assembly from Trinity Church, who has a nice sized vacant lot right next to Duarte Park. We had been asking for it for about a month, since being harshly evicted from Liberty Park on November 15th. Even though many people within the church support OWS using the lot, the Church Leaders refused, regardless of the lots complete and total present use.
We marched around the block
Occupy Liberty by LMNOP
we put a step unit up against the fence of the vacant lot
and the first person over it was Bishop George Packard
and other religious leaders and concerned citizens followed
In an intentional act of civil disobedience. In a symbolic statement
about the people's right to peaceful assembly.
Gandhi said: "Civil Disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the State becomes Corrupt"
I think it's safe to say that time is now.
Act Up. Act Out.
Non Violent Revolt!
