Nettie Brazeau Goings

Nettie Brazeau Goings was born in 1856 at Pine Ridge Reservation. She is of mixed heritage, part Lakota, African American and French. Her father was frontiersman John Brazeau, a French Creole from New Orleans who was adopted by Chief Sitting Bull who later joined Crazy Horse to fight against the colonialists.

This mural was commissioned by Margot Leom of Leom Designs for Lumin, a collective store / studio for women artists in Santa Cruz, California.
